Job

Description:

  • The Product Engineer establishes design specifications based on industry and customer standards and expectations
  • The Product Engineer performs, oversees, and directs product design and detailing along with product prototyping and testing of plastic enclosures
  • The Product Engineer will work with the Manufacturing Engineer on product design, forming design, and plant capacity for any new or modified product
  • The Product Engineer will assist the Product Management team throughout the product development stages and assist the Manufacturing Engineer for manufacturing process integration
  • The Product Engineer will support the sales and customer service team in pre-sale and post-sale strategies
  • New product development, including project management and design coordination with product management team
  • Coordinating internal and third-party testing and prototyping for new product development
  • Design of injection mold and structural foam tooling for new products
  • Establishing product specifications, material standards, and testing requirements for operations’ teams based on industry and customer expectations
  • Product design calculations and 3D modeling using finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Developing customer details and drawings
  • Reviewing accuracy of product designs and drawings completed by drafting team
  • Providing technical support and expertise for quality standards and certifications
  • Setting goals and objectives for internal and external customer projects
  • Maintaining existing regulatory approvals and assisting commercial team for new approvals
  • Creating SKU’s and Bills of Material
  • Attending job sites and customer meetings as needed to provide technical support
  • Generating goals and expectations to communicate weekly with key customers related to project status and backlog

Required Training or

Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT or PE certification
  • Experience with plastics
  • Experience in finite element analysis software tools
  • Experience with 3D software (Autodesk Inventor knowledge is an asset)
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, strength to lift and carry files and products weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Must be able to work in plant production environment as needed to validate designs, review progress on special projects, perform job safety analysis, and other tasks which will result in some exposure to noise, dust, cold, etc.
  • Must be able to wear PPE when applicable and follow all safety measures
  • Overnight/Business Travel approximately 30% within the US, Canada, and Mexico
